GRADE 2

It is that time of the year again that marks the end of autumn and the beginning of the colder months, that is, winter.

The Earth has completed half of its annual lap of the Sun. The Southern Hemisphere is now tilted away from the Sun and so we say goodbye to those cool autumn breezes and mild sunny days.

Let’s guide the children through the changes occurring around them. A discussion of these environmental changes could be part of their reading/homework time that they daily spend with you. There will be no more leaves crunching under our feet and the branches are now very bare as we move into Winter!!

In our Clubs sessions this week, we traced around some very large autumn leaves using large pieces of coloured chalk. We took advantage of being outside, on a warm autumn day, to draw and compare the sizes, shapes and the colours of the leaves here in our school yard with those found elsewhere. This was a lot of fun and the children were very surprised with the size and the range of leaf colours e.g. red, green, brown, yellow and purple. We all can learn from observing and interacting with our environment especially during Environmental Day celebrated on the 5th June.

So take the time with your child and appreciate the changes in our environment particularly as we now move from one season to the next.

Thank You,
